Recycling Construction & Demolition Waste with Mobile Crushers

Crushing concrete and masonry waste on site turns a disposal cost into recycled aggregate. Here is how a mobile crushing setup makes it work.

Construction and demolition (C&D) waste is one of the largest waste streams in growing cities. Instead of trucking it to a landfill, contractors can crush it on site into recycled aggregate for sub-base, backfill, paver blocks and non-structural concrete.

Why recycle on site

  • Less trucking of waste out and fresh aggregate in.
  • Lower disposal fees and a cleaner site.
  • A saleable or reusable product from material you already have.

The equipment

  • Primary crusher: a track mounted jaw crusher handles concrete slabs and masonry and walks to wherever the waste is.
  • Magnet: an overband magnet removes reinforcing steel from the crushed product.
  • Screen: a mobile screening plant separates the output into sub-base and aggregate sizes.
  • Secondary crusher (optional): a cone or impact crusher produces better-shaped, finer aggregate.

Good practice

  1. Sort the waste first: remove wood, plastics, gypsum and other contaminants.
  2. Break oversize slabs with a hydraulic breaker so they fit the crusher.
  3. Control dust with water sprays at the crusher and conveyors.
  4. Test the recycled aggregate before using it in specified works.

Our track mounted crushing and screening plants and Micro Cone are well suited to recycling concrete and brick waste.
