A stationary plant wins on cost per tonne; a track mounted plant wins on flexibility. The right choice depends on how long you stay at each site.
Crushing contractors often ask whether they should invest in a fixed installation or a mobile one. Both have a place, and the decision usually comes down to one number: how many months will the plant stay at each site?
Stationary crushing and screening plants
A stationary plant is installed on foundations with conveyors, chutes and screens laid out for the long term.
- Lowest cost per tonne at high, steady volumes.
- Easy to expand with extra crushers or screens.
- Needs civil work, electrical supply and time to install: best for a quarry with years of reserves.
Semi mobile plants
Semi mobile plants are built on skids or wheeled chassis. They move by trailer and need only simple levelled ground, making them a good middle path for road and canal projects that last several months.
Track mounted plants
A track mounted plant carries its own feeder, crusher, conveyor and power unit and walks into position on crawler tracks.
- Set-up in hours instead of weeks.
- Crush right at the face or the demolition site and cut haulage.
- Available with jaw, cone or VSI crushers and with mobile screens.
How to decide
| Your situation | Usually best |
| Own quarry, many years of reserves | Stationary |
| Projects of 6 to 24 months | Semi mobile |
| Frequent moves, contract crushing, recycling | Track mounted |
| Remote site without grid power | Track mounted (diesel / hydraulic drive) |
